These tall herb communities are common on upper terraces along Upper Shavers Fork. Below bank in scoured channel shelf is a different herb community (see MONF.67 and MONF.69).;Alluvial floodplain terrace with deep sandy deposits dominated by tall herbs. Reason for open community on upper terrace is obscure - may be related to flooding, ice scour, or sediment deposition. Single hawthorn tree in plot is dying. In wet swales Scirpus becomes dominant.
Representativeness
Narrow to wide zone on depositional terraces dominated by tall herbs. Questionable whether this is a natural type or a response to logging and hydrological alteration.
